I need to make labels that have text identifiers (two letters) on the right hand side of each label
How can I type my label without this text moving around?

You could subdivide each label cell using Split Cells, making the right-hand
portion just large enough for the identifier. Alternatively, if it's just
two letters even with the top line of the label, set a right-aligned tab
stop at the right cell margin and use Ctrl+Tab to tab to it and place your
identifier there.
