Possible to Show / Hide Format Marks in PowerPoint as in Word?

While editing slides in PowerPoint (2003) is there a way to display the
formatting marks (tabs, paragraph marks, spaces, etc.) as there is in Word?

And strangely if you send > to microsft word (as outline) they show up!
