Posting excel spreadshet on Company Intranet

Someone wants to post an excel spreadsheet on the company's intranet, as a
..xls and not a .html. However when two people view the spreadsheet
concurrently, the second person will get a message "File in use - [File
Name] is locked for editing" with command buttons "Read Only," "Notify," and
"Cancel." I know you can work around this message by making the file a
read-only file but this option is not acceptable to the person who is
posting the spreadsheet. Is there another way to eliminate the file in use
message?

Hi Nick

Thanks for your reply. I tried sharing the workbook. After restoring the
file because of corruption, when I clicked the link to the document in the
web browser I get a message "File is locked ....." so unfortunately that
option will not work either.

You could share the workbook, but Excel doesn't share well, earlier versions
less than later ones

Tools>Shareworkbook...
