Power Point wants to open as a read-only file

When I try opening power point files for the first time,
I keep getting a message that says that the files are
already opened. However, I know the files are closed
because nothing else is opened.

When I receive this message, I click cancel and close
power point. Then I try opening the files again and they
open fine.

Does anyone know why this is occurring and how I can fix
it?

Thanks,

When I've seen this happen, it's because someone's set their Windows settings to open the file with one click. Then someone else gets on the machine and does their standard double-click, so two copies of the file open. The second one will, of course, be read-only, because the file's already opened once.

Could that be the situation here?
