Powerpoint 2000 shows file name of video, only?

When I try and insert an mpg file into a slide, it tells me there's an
error and it can't. I have now been able to copy and paste the file into the
slide, and it works fine. However, the slide only shows the file name. Any
way to turn the file name into an icon or a thumbnail.

Try to goto Tools,Customize, Visual Basic, Click the tool icon with the hammer.
click the .....browse below look for object that says Microsoft NetShow
Player.
place it on the slide select it right click goto properties insert locate
your mpg file.
Hope this works.
