Powerpoint 2001 and Berthold Akzidenz font

Hello:

The font Berthold Akzidenz is not showing up in Powerpoint 2001's pull
down menu of fonts. I asked the tech support person at Berthold about
it and he said the reason is that Microsoft Powerpoint does not
support postscript fonts. That sounds odd to me....Is it true?

No. Or rather, it doesn't independently use them the way, say, Illustrator
can, but if they're properly installed in the system, it'll use them just as
it will any other system font.

So ... can you see the font in other applications? Which ones? All of
them?
