I have been using relatively new Toshiba Tablet (2006) with inking without
any problems with Office 2003. I have switched to Office 2007 and have no
problems inking in microsoft word and excel. However, in Powerpoint, there is
no 'Start Inking' command in the Review menu (there is that option in Word
and Excel). I also have tried adding the Pen tool to the Quick Access toolbar
but the button that shows up with that does is 'disabled' (when I add the
same button to the Word quick access toolbar it is selectable and usable).

Is inking in Powerpoint something that needs to be disabled? I feel like
that might be it since Start Inking does not show up in the review section of
just this program but does for all other Office main office programs.

Also, as an aside, is there a reason Powerpoint 2007does not have the new
equation writing program as Word 2007? In powerpoint it seems the only way to
add an equation is via the old method (Insert-->Object-->Microsoft Equation
Editor3.0).

Thanks!!!

Honestly: Even though I have been a tablet user for several years (and am a
VERY avid user of OneNote and PPT), I never thought to try adding content to
a slide directly with my pen. When I need to add content to a placeholder on
a slide from my tablet, I use the TIP to do it.

Having said that, when I use PPT on my tablet, there is a "Start Inking"
button at the far right of my review tab (and I just tested, it does work).
Since it only shows up on Tablet PCs, it makes me wonder if PPT doesn't
think you are using a tablet. If you do a detect and repair, does the inking
button show up?

As for the equation editor difference... ours in not to question why...

Thanks for the quick response! And sorry for the rather unintelligible
writing of the first post...I think you got the gist of my problem though. I
think I still have a problem however.

Nothing came up under the Detect and Repair diagnostic at all. But I agree,
it appears PPT is not recognizing my tablet while the other office programs
are. In the end it is not a big deal as I, like you, rarely use my pen for
adding content to a presentation. I just wanted to this time around and now
that I can't, of course it's going to bug me...

Next interesting piece, I can copy an 'ink object' from word into PPT
directly, double click on the object and it opens the InkTools menu. In that,
I can change the color and weight of the pen but the other options like
"BallpointPen" "Felt Tip Pen" and "Highlighter" are shown, but disabled. So I
still can't add content directly in PPT. It definitely boggle me why it works
in all other Office programs, and in PPT on your computer, but not on mine.
This has to be a pref setting that I am somehow overlooking.

Anyway, thanks for your help! And please throw me any other suggestions you
might have!

Thanks
Manny

Well I solved the problem and happy but have to laugh. Restarting the
computer, not once, but twice, solved the issue. Powerpoint now has the start
inking option in the review tab fully accesible. Thanks for your help!
