Powerpoint background sizing

I'm trying to fit an image as a background that has some
text on it, and I'd like to avoid having it get resized
when I bring it in to powerpoint - what size should the
image be to fill the full screen (but not larger than
that space - e.g. 1024 x 768 is too large)

If you go to View > Master > Slide Master and then use Format > Background >
Fill Effects > Picture, it will size it exactly for you.
