My take is that powerpoint first became dominate (and wiping out lotus
freelance spc harvard graphics et al) when microsoft office was bundled with
new PCs. Once it got a hold that was it.

You can read the same for microsoft word (word perfect / word star et al),
and Excel (quatro et al)
