Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel We have run into an issue where PowerPoint will crash when trying to print to our Xerox Color Printer Doc 252s. We where able to get xerox to look into the issue and it turns out to be an issue with the EFI rip. They are working on a fix. Just wanted to let people know as i have seen a few post about printing to Xerox devices.

Thanks for posting about this.

Does it solve the problem if you make a PDF from PPT then print that to
the RIP?

Yes our current "work around" is to print to a PDF and then print the PDF. I have seen that there has been others with his same issue posting.

Hello,

There are 5 open threads on this forum dealing with printing crashes using the Xerox 242 or 252 printers.

We are using an EFI Fiery external rip and the Fiery EX260 Color Server PS driver. Are any other users with this printing issue using a similar setup?

Bob Jones, Office:Mac MVP, suggests the issue is with the Xerox driver. The Fiery EX260 Color Server PS driver came out in May of 2007. Office 2008 was released in January of 2008. It appears, IMHO, that something changed in PowerPont 2008 that breaks printing using the EFI driver.

I would like to advise our studios to upgrade to Office 2008 but, using Office 2004 seems to be the only viable solution at this time.

The print to pdf and then print to the color printers does not work in an environment that charges clients $100/hr for designers time.

Is there any chance the Microsoft MBU will be working with EFI to get this resolved anytime in the near future?

Thanks to everyone on this forum.

Hi Del;

Bob Jones, Office:Mac MVP, suggests the issue is with the Xerox driver. The
Fiery EX260 Color Server PS driver came out in May of 2007. Office 2008 was
released in January of 2008. It appears, IMHO, that something changed in
PowerPont 2008 that breaks printing using the EFI driver.

You're absolutely right... A *lot* has changed in Office/PPt 2008 since it
was first released. That's why it's now at version 12.2.4 rather than still
being at the 12.0.0 level at which it was released.

Likewise, even if the systems have not moved from Tiger to Leopard to Snow
Leopard, whatever version of OS X they are running certainly has been
updated several times in the last 2 years. The driver you cite was released
nearly a year prior to the release of Office 2008.

IOW, everything has changed, and it's inconceivable that any device driver
was designed to anticipate those changes with any degree of accuracy. It's
just as unrealistic to assume that new advancements in software will be
retrofitted to accommodate pre-existing device drivers. As much as we might
like to believe otherwise it's the responsibility of the device mfrs to keep
pace with advancements in the industry.

Regardless of any debate on those issues, though, my 4 August 2009 reply you
quoted simply suggested that the driver was among the possibilities to be
explored. I don't see any indication in your current message that you have
checked into that possibility... Or, if you have, what your findings were.

What is interesting, though, is that the very first link you opened your
message with provides the answer you seem to be still seeking. Apparently
Hellomrzebra has not only checked into the issue but also has been kind
enough to share the findings for those who take the time to read the
message. This quote is from the message dated 9 April 2010:

"We have run into an issue where PowerPoint will crash when trying to print
