powerpoint default values

D

davids58

I'm using Powerpoint 2000 on XP Home and I'd like to use default
setting values in my charts. For example, when I select a text box, I'd
like it to be preset to Arial 10pt. How do I go about setting the app
up so that this is the case whenever I create a new set of charts?

TIA,
David

You've mentioned both text boxes and charts. Which do you want to set
defaults for?

If it is indeed charts, see http://www.echosvoice.com/colorschemes3.htm The
part that's relevant to you is at the bottom -- "user-defined charts." It
would be worth your while to read through the top part, though, as it
explains where the charts get their colors from.

I'm interested in setting the values for the various elements used in
the charts themselves.

Thanks,
David

Well, that link should help you, then.

To set up the chart in the first place, select the chart area, right-click
and choose Format Chart Area, and specify the font size there. (Turn off
Autoscale while you're in there.)

If you're talking about using manual textboxes in the charts, you may need
to put a manual textbox in the chart and format it to specification also. I
don't know if it will maintain the setting for new manual textboxes in the
chart (the user-defined chart) after that or not -- I just never use manual
textboxes on charts, because I add them to the PPT slide itself instead.

Sorry, I guess I need to be more careful with my language. I didn't
mean to refer to charts as in a data plot but to the slides themselves.
I guess I'm suffering from the inappropriate terms used in my company.

Thanks,
David

You mean like a diagram? An Org Chart or something?
Do you need to set defaults for autoshapes (lines, rectangles, ovals,
triangles, etc.) and textboxes, maybe?

You gotta give me something to go on here, David! :)

ok, what I want is to be able to start powerpoint, select the text
tool, and have it set to the My default font-style, -weight,
-alignment, etc.

Thanks for hanging in there!

ah. In that case, you can set up a textbox the way you want it, right-click
and choose "set autoshape defaults."

You'll need to do this and then save the file as Blank.POT (a template) to
have it happen when you open a new, blank presentation. If you want this on
existing PPT files, you'll have to do this on each individual file.

Also, you'll want to read this thread:
