It sounds as if it's actually opening properly, then. So assuming that's the
case, after it opens, choose File | Save As and then choose to save as a
"template (*.pot)" in the "save as type" dropdown in the dialog box. This
should take you to the typical folder templates are stored in, so just save
it there, and with any luck it will also show up in the design template task
pane. Without luck, you'll have to hit the Browse button a couple of times
and find the template and use it once or twice (just apply it to some blank
presentations) so it starts to show up.
For what it's worth, I find this whole template download process really
frustrating. I think the templates are actually saved somewhere on your
drive as they're downloaded and opened, but finding them again is an
exercise in wasting time.
