Powerpoint fails to open PP files created in earlier version

I have PP files created on my old machine using the same version of PP but
the machine was not XP. Although the files have the correct logo and a
preview sometimes shows the front page - I receive a message stating the PP
can not read the file

If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the
Office Plugin that comes with it. See

I have Norton 2005 but followed the instructions given by friend Garfield but
sadly this din't solve the problem. Thank you for trying
