PowerPoint freezes while launching.

A friend of mine uses PowerPioint for some pretty basic presentatiions.
Recently, he burned a CD-R of all his files as backup, and now, when h
tries to launch PowerPoint from his Start/Programs menu, it opens
window and then freezes. He has to Ctl-Alt-Del to get out of it. Thi
is with Windows ME and Office 2000. He doesn't seem to have th
Office Tool that "restores" an application (I have Office XP wit
Win2K, I kept asking "Where's the task manager?).

If he right-click-creates a new PowerPoint document on his desktop
that file will open PowerPoint correctly, and he can work normally wit
it. He can also open any one of _his_ files by double-clicking, s
PowerPoint isn't broken, it just can't seem to find a document to ope
when it's launched from the Start menu. It still works fine except fo
that, and I guess it's not that important, but it's a bit, er
frustrating. What can we do to restore PowerPoint? He's already trie
removing and reinstalling it, and that had no effect on the problem.
I'm leaning towards a corrupted registry setting myself, but I'm n
registry (nor Windows, for that matter) wizard, and I'd hate t
permanently break something.

Thanks
