Powerpoint Hates quicktime 1.7.3!

I just wasted 6 hours with Microsoft and Adobe tech support. it wa
Apple support that once again saved the day! Adobe does not officiall
support Flash 8 Pro on the intel Macs (just FYI

Quicktime 1.7.3 blocks (or screws up) Flash publishing mov files an
Powerpoint imbedding swfs and mov files in slides, at least on the Ma
Pro. It also won't let you view swfs or mov's that have bee
successfully linked to a PPT

I had to reinstall the OS with it's 1.7.2 Quicktime version. Now it'
all working again.

today was a looooong day

Hi,

I think you are referring to Apple's QuickTime version 7.2 not version 1.7.2

To enable Flash playback in QuickTime 7.2:
On the Apple menu choose System Preferences
Click on QuickTime
Click the Advanced tab
Click the checkbox "Enable Flash"

It's indeed disappointed that the folks at Apple and Adobe didn't know about
this setting.

Opps! Typo...Yes 7.2.

NOPE! the Flash enable tip on the Adobe site DOES NOT WORK on th
intel Mac...or at least on mine. I had to reinstall 7.2. I saw thi
tip at 11:00 am on the Adobe site and thought my problem was solved.
It did...squat. Also Adobe tech support "does not currently offer tec
support for intel Mac users for Flash"...and that is a quot
folks...right from the 20minute sitting on hold to wait for cra
support source

Thanks though

Hi,

I'm using an Intel based iMac and QuickTime 7.3 is not offered by Software
Update (although my computer is non-standard in many ways so that could be
the reason why).

At any rate, as long as we know that 7.2 works as expected then people who
visit this newsgroup will be enlightened and happy.

Thanks for taking the time to research this problem and most importantly for
sharing your experience so that everyone can benefit.

Where are you people finding all these advanced versions? (Let's forget
1.7.3...) 7.3? No such thing. 7.2.3? No such thing. Reinstall 7.2? No such
thing. I have 7.1.3, and Software Update tells me there are no updates.

I am on a PPC G5. Do you mean to say that there is a more advanced version
(7.2) only for Intel Macs? I can't find anything about that on the Apple
website.

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/mac.html

7.1.3 seems to be the latest. Where is this 7.2 coming from? (If you've got
a Leopard beta you're under NDA, so I doubt you'd be talking about it here.)

...puts down the crackpipe...

YES...7.1.3!

man, talk about being typing challenged...You'd think I would hav
picked it up the first time i mistyped it!

The problem is Quicktime 7...point 1...point 3.

This is the newest version of Quicktime. No there is no 7.3...unles
you drink and type!

K...7.1.3...bad! Flash screws up and so does Powerpoint...and NO i
wasn't from drinking and trying to animate (but I know that's what yo
were thinking!)

Recap...don't update Itunes(it updates Quicktime too) or Quicktime pas
7.1.2 if you are using Flash or Powerpoint...on the Mac...on a
Intel...while you are drinking...wait...forget that last part!

Hi,

I did the iTunes update and I think that's how I wound up with 7.2

At any rate, I tried to open a couple flash files in QuickTime but got an
error message "Quicktime cannot open the file [filename] because invalid
media data was found in the movie. (-2008).

I don't know whether that means QuickTime can't open all SWF files or the 3
I experimented with.

If you have a SWF file that you know worked with older versions of QuickTime
I'd be glad to give it a try.

There is no QT 7.2 - you must mean 7.1.3. Yes, that's how you can end up
with 7.1.3.

Hi Paul et al,

Sad to say my system is quite a mess at the moment. Disk Utility keeps
finding stuff wrong. I can't use Get Info, Finder won't let me use the
desktop, and QuickTime has been quirky.

Whatever you get when you install the new version of iTunes is what I have,
cause that's what I did before I ran into all these system problems. I don't
installing iTunes cased the problems I'm having, though. I have a lot of
troubleshooting to do.
