powerpoint image preparation

I am new to PowerPoint, and have PP 2003 SP1. I have a presentation that I
export to HTML. Most works, including with non-MS browsers, because I choose
compatibility with MS IE 3+ and Navigator 3+ during Publish (see
http://www.opalcomputing.com/org/ppt/eComStream_Introduction/eComStream_Introduction_files/frame.htm,
slides 1, 6, and 7). The problem is that certain images' text become very
jagged inside when viewed as HTML, even though they look fine inside PP.
Strangely, other images that have the same file type (jpg), size, resolution
(96bpi), and color depth, look fine under the same circumstances. On the
particular slide in question (#7), I took a larger version of the same image
and shrink it manually inside PP, the end result is OK but there is a black
line along one edge. I understand this is a jpg bug in PP. In any case, on
another slide (#6) I take an image of the same general specifications and
drop it in, and the published HTML and graphics is fine for that slide. So:
any articles recommended? Any third party tools that address this issue, if
necessary. And last, should I avoid HTML output and use some other form,
such as graphics for output?

Your JPGs look like they have been compressed before inserting in PowerPoint
because I can see compression artifacts, particularly on the blue form. Can you
create them as PNG? PNG is a lossless format and should give you cleaner
results. Also, size them in your graphics application, rather than in
PowerPoint.
