powerpoint installation issue

i installed powerpoint on my computer and i get a message
"Operating system is not presently configured to run this program"
if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thank you

What version of Windows and what version of PowerPoint?

Windows xp powerpoint 2000, and i get this error

Something is probably damaged in your Windows XP installation. It might be a
virus or spyware, or a damaged Registry or folder. Since you are not able to
install PowerPoint at all, I would recommend that you post your question in a
