Powerpoint opening on it's own

Echo: Aha. That's because the clipart gallery in PPT 2002 is actually the
Clip Organizer. So what you're seeing here is that the Clip Organizer is
working (PPT 2002), but the Clip Gallery (PPT 2000) isn't. <<

Reading through this saga of candy canes and Christmas trees leads me ask if
there is any *really good* systematic training on PPT out there. Other than
PPT MVP websites, the FAQ and this ng of course. I'm thinking something
(other than a book) that would clear up the mysteries. Something Video
Professor-like. If there isn't anything, there oughta be. What say we gather
a bunch of PPT wizards together in a mountain cabin for a week and see what
fine work results? Just an idea.

No Kamikazes before dusk.

I think there are people out there providing PPT comprehensive training. Ok,
I know there are: I do it. Unfortunately, most people won't pay for the real
training that is needed. They will pay for an intro course at times, but
rarely will they pay for more than that. PPT Live meets some of this need,
but not for nearly enough people.

I sell the Video Professor CDs off my site, as they are the best I have
found. That doesn't mean they are great, just that they are the best out
there.

If you decide to sponsor a project to create a better program, let me know.
I am very interested in getting involved. Meanwhile, it is back to making
the changes requested by my editor on the PPT book I am writing that will be
on the shelves in March.

Cool. I'll check out your site again. And the Video Professor classes (have
never looked at one.)

I am eager to get immersed in what PPT can really do now that the company I
joined is moving towards upgrading everyone (especially the folks who will
deliver the training programs I develop) from Office 2000 (and sometimes
97!) to Office 2003. Because there was no player for PPT 2002, I abandoned
that product shortly after it came out. And then effluvium happened and I
have been doing little PowerPoint work for a year or so. Starting in
January, I expect to be back to heavy course development again. Glad to be
back here reading the Qs and As and glad PPT Live came along.

Anyway, don't sell the mountain retreat idea short, people. Could be fun if
not lucrative.

Ewww. ;-) Did it hurt?

You might be onto something there, Bob. I was also 'prevented' from
upgrading because of the old viewer, but now the restraints are gone. Maybe
there are lots more like us...I'm two versions behind right now.

I agree - mountain retreat sounds great. Now, who has the bucks to sponsor
it?

Not here, sorry to say...just a cog.

A year??? I thought the effluvium happened right before PPTLive, Bob.

I'd bet better than even money that the free 2003 Viewer sells more copies
of 2003 than all the other features of PPT 2003 together.

Ah. Touché. Don't remind me. Ugh.

No, no NO. Never ever touché that stuff. You don't know wh ... well,
actually you DO know where it's been. And you don't want to go there.

I bet the same money that MS knows that, too. :)

I will also bet even money, based on all the posts in this forum, that they
are busy at Microsoft trying to figure out a way to write PowerPoint to DVD.

WHOOOHOOO!!!! I FOUND 'EM! FINALLY!! YES! AND....YES AGAIN!!!

I've got Borders again!!! And my whole wazoolie of Arts & Crafts, Clips,
Buttons and Christmas trees are back!
This is the "borders and frames" part of the Clip Gallery, right? Or is it
the Format/Borders and Shading from PPT's menubar?

Huh?? Well..ya know, I've never seen the Format/Borders and Shading in PPT,
just in Word. And those didn't work either. When I'd try to open the
Borders Art at the bottom of Page Borders, I got a message that said the
feature is not available. That I needed to run setup and select the feature
to Run from my computer. Well I did that according to the instructions from
the two articles you gave me in your original response, but, it still was
not working for Word 2000. So, yeah, it was from the Borders and Frames
clips whatzit.

After I went through all the steps of the two articles you posted earlier,
and still things were not working in both programs as they should (although
I had the Borders back in PPT 2000), I knew that it had to be *something* in
one or more of those setting thingies that had somehow gotten changed, since
all had been working before. I finally got the idea to take a look at
everybody down the list, and I went one by one and clicked all the x, y's &
z's in the sublists, and finally, under MS Word for Windows, there was a
thingie for Page Border Art, and it's 'lil icon had a big X on it. So, I
opened it up and changed it to 'Run all from my computer', then updated.
Voila!!! Now all my borders and clipart in both PPT and Word 2000 are back
in place! Whew!!

Ahhh...once again...life is good.....and "The Christmas Train" can roll out
of Campo on time again this year to deliver all the toys and goodies to all
the wonderful 'lil kids. :))))

Thank you, thank you everyone, for all your help and suggestions. Ya know,
sometimes it does seem to 'take a village' to get through the density of the
gray-matter, especially at times when the air gaps between the ears are
wider than normal....<vbg>

Very cool, Jan. It didn't occur to me that page borders would be in a
different install place than the clip organizer itself. Good on ya.

I'll bet against that one. If you want to get requests like that heard,
forum posts don't get the job done. Instead, read any of John Langhan's
posts and click the link. ;-)

I'd post the URL directly, but I kinda like his instructions. Best to read
them first.

And seriously ... please DO register your vote for DVD there.

Hey Echo!
..
Very cool, Jan. It didn't occur to me that page borders would be in a
different install place than the clip organizer itself. Good on ya.

Well..you helped put me in the right place, Echo, and I really just lucked
into it, pure and simple. Heck....I had no idea where to look for any of
this stuff in the first place, or what type of files to look for. I had
tried to find something to relate to before, but, I don't know what they are
called to ask about them in the Help. Especially, the difference between
the Clipart Gallery in 2000 and the Clipart Organizer in 2002, 'cause
neither of those show up in the immediate list of files in the tree. I was
looking under Common shares, Microsoft shares, MickeyDee shares, etc., but,
I really had no clue where to really look. There are more folders for Office
here and there all over the tree, and I had no idea which one was which.
Same thing for the Office 10. Sheesh.....it was like looking for an acorn
with a particular crook in it's stem in a squirrels nest!

Are the clipart files referred to differently in 2003, as opposed to Clipart
Organizer? Sure hope not. It might get real confusing then.

I'd say you did very well. Thumbs up.

PPT 2003 also uses the Clip Organizer, so you should be in good shape.
