PowerPoint page changes

I would like to have the Page Down key, and the Mouse advance button both
send the slide to a defined slide rather than to the next slide.

For example;

My project goes from slide 1 to Slide 6. From slide 7 on are definitions
that are hyperlinked from Slide 6. After the user reads the definitions they
can click a button to return to slide 6, however I don't want them to be able
to advance to slide 8 without going back to slide 6 and choosing the
definition that would send them to slide 8.

Is this possible in PowerPoint?

From your description, it seems that you want to put hyperlinks and
buttons for ALL interaction in the presentation. That way, you can go to
the Slide Show menu and choose Set Up Show to put the show in Kiosk mode.
This will disable all keystrokes, except the Escape key, and all mouse
clicks, except those on your hyperlinks and buttons.

IN addition, I would hide the slides from 7 on. Then, if you do progress
past 6, no other slide will show. (Hidden slides can only be seen by going
to them explicitly.)

Good idea, but I don't think it will work in this case because once the
user goes to slide 7 (which is hidden), using the space bar or mouse click
or Page Down key will go to the next slide even if it is hidden.

Probably make a custom show? In the beginning, you will be brought to the
custom show where the slide 7 will not be included. Then, at somewhere in the
slides, you can have hyperlink to slide 7, then to go back to the previous
page, just have the action setting hyperlinked to last slide viewed.

Good points guys. Yeah, I would use custom shows for this application myself
(you both already knew that). Easier to use, linking works better and you
have the nice "Show and Return" option.

(This is what I get for answering questions on knee drugs....lol )

This advance to next hidden slide can be eliminated by interspersing
un-hidden, 0:00 timed advance slides between the hidden ones. This would
loop them back to slide 1 if they managed to miss the link back to slide 6
while in kiosk mode.

All around, custom shows is the better answer, but this one is serviceable
also.
