PowerPoint slide saved as movie file

Is it posible to save a powerpoint slide (with animation) in a format such as
..avi or .mpg or any other type that can be imported into movie software?

If you are using powerpoint on an apple mac, you can save the presentation
as a quicktime mov file.

For windows versions, it's a case of capturing the presentatation as an
AVI.
