PowerPoint uses MCI player (mplayer.exe), no the Windows Media Player.

Should have guessed! I actually did a bit of programming in Win API and some

Best reference for MCI is of course Petzold's "Programming Windows 5th Edn"
1999 , where I learnt all my MCI and WinAPI audio stuff. Great book to
really understand this api.
Actually "Plays for Certain" sounds like "Plays for Sure" lol

Well, that sort of, kinda depends on what the sound file is. In general
terms, the MCI does the work, sort of. Keep in mind what we call the MCI is
really a front end exe built up on a WHOLE BUNCH of api's within Windows.
Keep in mind when the EU had MS take "media capability" out of XP for sale
in the EU, they pulled out 180+ files from the OS.
