When I sign on in my Windows XP SP2, PowerPoint tries to start autmatically
and it gives an error with sugestion to start/dont start PowerPoint. Can you
help to remove this auto start of PPT?

Thanks

Omar,
Check Start | Programs | Startup folder. Do you have a PowerPoint shortcut
present there? Delete it.

Do you have it listed in the registry?
Run MSConfig.exe and check if PowerPnt.exe is listed under the startup tab.

Did you check under your login or under "All Users". When you right-click
the START button and click "Explore", it opens you up in your login under
"Documents and Settings". This thing might be under the "All Users" startup
folder path.

Just a thought.

It sounds to me as if the autorecovery has kicked in. Try allowing PPT to
start and then click the X in the right-hand corner (or File/Exit) to close
it down properly.

That said, it would be much easier to help you if you'd tell us the exact
text of the error message.

The error message is:

"Microsoft Office PowerPoint has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Please help.

So it says PPT's encountered a problem and needs to close. Start/Don't
Start? That seems really strange. PPT must be starting in Safe mode. But it
doesn't quite make sense that it's trying to start up automatically when you
log onto Windows.

What if you click the "more information" button on the error report? Any
more information there?

Also,
Try allowing PPT to
start and then click the X in the right-hand corner (or File/Exit) to close
it down properly.

Did that help?

Also, close PPT and try deleting your *.PCB file. This is your PPT toolbar.
PPT will recreate it the next time it starts. You will lose any
customizations of your toolbar.

Another thing to try. Close PPT, search for *.PPA files on your computer.
*.PPAs are PPT add-ins. Rename them all to *.PPX. Start PPT. If it works,
then close it and rename the PPX files back to PPA one at a time until you
isolate the problem add-in.

What I'm thinking with these is that PPT's not closing down properly which
is making autorecovery kick in as it would if the system had crashed.

Have you tried letting PPT open? How about letting it open and then running
Help/Detect and Repair?

Another thing to look at is the Windows task scheduler (assuming that WinXP
even has one). Do you have PPT scheduled to start up automatically?
