Powerpoint starts then closes

I installed PowerPoint 2002 Upgrade over PP97 (bundled in
Office97. When I try to open it, it goes to the setup
screen momentarily then closes.

Any suggestions?

I installed it on a new emachine notebook.
AMD Athlon 64
