PowerPoint Viewer 2003 update

I have a PowerPoint Viewer 2003 v. 11.0.8164.0 which my Secunia program
detects is insecure. I have downloaded the file
office2003-kb969615-fullfile-x86-en-us.exe from Microsoft Update which is the
appropriate update. However, when attempting to install it, the installer
reports that there is no program on my system to update and closes. Yet
PPTVIEW.EXE is located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11
folder and is working. My files for Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 are
up-to-date.

Can onyone help resolve this problem for me please?

Hello RetiredRev

I have a simmilar problem.
Microsoft Office Power Point Viewer 2003 v. 11.0.8164.0
shows up in a Secunia scan , and suggest the same download :
Security Update for PowerPoint Viewer 2003 (KB969615)

When i try to install the update i get a message telling me that no program
installed on the computer is affected by this update.

I have tried to unistall the Viewer with Revo Uninstaller 1.83
but then i get the MS Office 2003 installer - and i can not find a Power
Point Viewer option in that installer.

I should mention that I had two occurrences of Powerpoint Viewer that showed
up in Secunia.

The reason maybe is that I had Office 2003 Professional and Works 8 installed.
I managed to unistall the version associated with Works 8 trough Revo
Uninstaller.

Neither of the versions of Power Point Viewer associated with Office 2003 or
Works 8 showed up in the windows unistall list trough the controll panel or
in the list provided by Windows Install Clean Up

So now I am stuck with pptview.exe

But on the secunia forum i found a discussion that i looked into.

I have renamed the PPTVIEW.EXE file to PPTVIEW.EXE_old
and copied the file PPTVIEW.EXE that you can extract from the
office2003-kb969615-fullfile-x86-en-us.exe archive using a
archiv program like 7zip.
I copied the file into place in the office11 folder where the original
PPTVIEW.EXE_old also is.

Power point viewer no longer show up in a secunia scan.

I have Microsoft Office 2003 Professional installed an really dont nead
powerpoint viewer 2003.
But i discovered that the file is neaded when you use the "package to CD"
function in Powerpoint and want to include the viewer on a cd.

I have verified that the file that is included on a cd now after that i have
done this work around is the new updated version from the
office2003-kb969615-fullfile-x86-en-us.exe archive.

I dont know more than this - and I am awaiting a microsoft solution to this
problem.
But this one works fine for now.
