PowerPoint won't insert ditital camera slides with .JPG extension

I have loaded slides from my digital camera into the computer, but I can't
get them inserted into PowerPoint. The file extension is .JPG, and
PowerPoint won't open it. Is there any way to get my slides into PowerPoint?
