When I try to insert a sound through the Insert/Movies and Sounds/Sounds from
File menu. mp3 does come up as an option and is not recognized as a sound
that can be inseted? Any ideas?

MP3s can be inserted in PowerPoint 2002. Are you sure it's an MP3? If you
select "All Files" in the File Types box, can you see your MP3 file? What
happens when you select it? Any message?

I get an error message " Power point couln't insert a sound from the selected
file." What is strange is that for years I have been using Power point with
MP3, but the problem just started tonight. Please help, i have a
presentation tomorrow.
Thank you

Does this happen with all MP3s? I would test it with several files, hopefully
from different sources. Have you recently installed another media player, such
as Real Player? Can you go to Start > Run and type mplay32.exe and open and
play the file? If not, then you know that it won't work in PowerPoint.
