You'r right, JPGs don't have transparency. Sorry -- I didn't recall we
were working with JPG.
When I open these 3 logo images in Photoshop, they look fine. (I went to
the link, clicked "download," let each image open in the new window,
right-clicked and chose Save Picture As and saved. Left the name and file
type alone.) I'm not sure about the lock and dollar notes you're talking
about.
If I open the file properties in Photoshop, I do see photoshop:ColorMode:
3 and photoshop:ICCProfile: sRGB IEc61966-2.1, which leads me back to
thinking it's an issue with the color profile, which is what FAQ 627
discusses. You need to remove this color profile on the images as
described. This is further supported by the fact that the one logo which
does work in your document does *not* have a color profile assigned in
Photoshop. That's why it's not turning black.

ok, this is getting funny!
- when i try the transparency wand this happens:
http://img481.imageshack.us/my.php?image=immagine1rp.jpg
- the original logos can be found here:
http://www.fiatpresse.dk/logos.asp?a=3
- i dont think it's the same issue as discussed at
(
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00627.htm), because a) the images
are jpegs and not png. b) jpgs dont have transparent areas.
- i tried the save as... trick anyways, doesnt help. tried copy/special
paste... no success.
what i'm starting to think.. i remember reading about some locks in
graphics programs (like ps an corel draw) that prevented you from
scanning and modifying dollar notes. could that be something going this
direction? protected company logos???
