Are you working on a Mac? (PowerPoint 98 is a Mac, not a PC version.)
Maybe you get better answers, if you post your question in the newsgroup for

It should be:

This will open your news reader software (i.e. Microsoft Outlook Express) and immediately take you to
microsoft.public.mac.office.powerpoint on the msnews.microsoft.com newsgroup server.
