PP 2002: Pack and Go-PP viewer option grayed out

B

Bob

I'm trying to create a presentation for viewing on non-PP-
equipped computers. Pack and go won't even give me the
option to choose the viewer. The button to download the
viewer sends me to a web page error page saying the file
isn't available for download. I go to the Office site and
there's a newer viewer that says that PP 2002 is
supported. I install it, reboot, and it is STILL grayed
out. What is the problem here and how can I create a
presentation for a computer that doesn't have PP installed?

Thanks! Bob

Does anyone know if this is a bug?? I have scoured the MS
site and there doesn't seem to even be a report of this
behavior. Any help, please?? Thanks. Bob

Actually I downloaded it from the MS site and installed it
(I'm looking at the icon for it now). Any idea why it's
doing this?

BTW, I have a network install and the CDs are not
available to me.

Thanks,

Bob

To my knowledge Pack and Go cannot be downloaded from anywhere, so I'm
assuming that you mean that you downloaded the Viewer. You'll need to ask
your network administrator to install Pack and Go for you, if it isn't
available/is grayed out.

Sonia, thanks for your feedback.

Actually Pack and Go is not grayed out, but rather the
option to use the PP viewer to distribute presentations
within the Pack and Go wizard. After installing the
updated viewer, it's still grayed out in the wizard. I
can only guess that wizard wasn't updated in PP to
accomodate the newer version of the viewer and therefore
doesn't recognize it.

Would that sound about right?

Thanks,

Bob

Exactly so, Bob.
You'd need to install the older viewer if you want to P'n'G a viewer with
your presentation.

That's what I was afraid of since I can't locate the old
PP viewer on the MS site. I can only find the newer
version.

Would you know where I can find the older version that
would work with PP 2002?

Thanks,

Bob

I wouldn't, 'cause I have a mind like a sieve. But I write this stuff down
and post it on the FAQ.

Download Free PowerPoint Viewers
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00153.htm

Scroll down a bit and you'll find a live link to the older viewer.

I have the same problem. In the Pack and Go wizard the PP
viewer otion is grayed out. I downloader the 2003 viewer
but it did not change the veiwer option. How can I enable
it or make a CD presentation run with out installing
Powerpoint?

Sonia: It doesn't seem to matter which viewer is downloaded. The option to include it is still unavailable - and our Admin didn't turn it off; apparently it came from Microsoft this way

Thank you for your assistance however.
