PPS not reading from email

It will not run when saved from an e-mail. You either have to double click
on the saved file and if you have either the PowerPoint viewer or the full
version of PowerPoint on your system it will then open and run in the
Slideshow mode.

I personally would not want any program to run when saved from an email.

computers with Works 8.0, Outlook express, XP home and tryed windows

Testing has come up with the following workaround.

1) Install PowerPoint Viewer 97 to the same folder as PowerPoint Viewer
2003.
2) Rename the respective executables for the two viewers as follows:
2a) Rename PowerPoint Viewer 97 executable to something other than
"pptview.exe" or "ppview32.exe"
2b) Rename PowerPoint Viewer 2003 executable "ppview32.exe"

This will "trick" Outlook Express into using PowerPoint Viewer 2003
(instead of PowerPoint Viewer 97) to open attachments.

Can you find the files on your system? If so, right-click one and choose
Rename. Then just type in the new name.

Sonia, I tried what u suggested, but the PPViewer 97 seems to be no longer
available on the MS website. I did find it on another website that I found by
using Google. I installed it and now I can view .pps files from Outlook
Express, so I am good. Thanks

I am not able to view .pps files from Outlook Express and I cannot find PPViewer 97

I have the same problem having to save the OE mail's pps attachment to my
harddrive and then I can open it up but never directly from outlook express.
I cannot fiqure out how to do this "association" under folder options in the
control panel. I have Power Point installed and it runs fine otherwise.
What can I do????

Edition does not allow this the choices I get start with : Presentation,
Single File Web Page, Web Page,Power Point 95, Powerpoint 97-2003 &
powerpoint 95 etc., No where on this list does .pps appear. Without the .pps
the slide show will not start on someone elses computer when sent through

Have you scrolled down to the bottom of the list in the File Save As
Options. "PowerPoint Show .pps" is after PowerPoint template .pot

Make sure you have all the patches and updates installed for your version.
If it still does not appear, then do a detect and repair and see if that
does not help.

In the meantime, you can always just save your presentation as a
"Presentation .ppt" then change the .ppt extension to.pps. the only
difference is how they open.

With that additional information I was able to repro this internally
under
the following configuration:

* Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2)
* PowerPoint Viewer 2003 installed (no version of PowerPoint installed).
* Attachments in Outlook Express

On the surface, it appears to be some kind of regression in Outlook
Express
caused by SP-2, but I'll leave it to the testing groups to find over the
ownership of the bug.

For now, the workarounds are:

* Save attachment and open from Windows explorer or PowerPoint Viewer
2003
directly
* Remove PowerPoint Viewer 2003 and install PowerPoint Viewer 97 (which
doesn't exhibit this problem)
* Remove Service Pack 2 for Windows XP (I definitely do NOT recommend
this
due to the many security enhancements it contains).

I anyone else is experiencing this problem with a different e-mail client
or with PowerPoint (instead of Viewer), please let me know. I'll post
update once testing has determined the root case.

I have two computers running PowerPoint viewer 3 & 7. both XP SP2. I use
LiveMail on both machines, but get the same results with MSN mail or outlook
express. One computer reads PPT files in Email and the other won't. Both read
PPTs out of any folder. The computer that won't read out of mail has a bluish
icon and the other computer has the normal orange icon. I can drag the the
PPT file from the mail to the desktop to and the file opens fine. Both
computer have Works 8.5
NOTE: address mailto:[email protected]. doesn't work

Here it is nearly Christmas of 2007. Before I reformatted my hard drive a
microsoft Outlook express e-mail pps attachment would open with pps Viewer.
I now have the latest version of Outlook Express and pps Viewer 2007
(recently downloaded) and I have this same problem. I have to store the
attached pps file in another location and open it with pps. I would think
that these incompatiblities would have been resolved over a two or three year
time period.

I am also against the wall. I reinstalled my xp windows, due to computer
problems. Now I can not re-download trial Microsoft Power Point though I
called the numbers listed and they gave other numbers. None so far helped, I
had even save Power Point I thought to CD, but apparently I didn't. I have

Kathy, while not absolutely sure, I think that the key for the trial is a
one-time use key and can only be used one time to activate the trial version
of the software. You probably are out of luck unless you download another
copy and new key.

Its no use holding out hope for Word 2007/Powerpoint as that doesn't work
either.
I save .pps on the Desktop and open it from within Powerpoint.
The "help" function for "opening .pps attachment in Window Mail while
running Windows Vista" doesn't work either!
