PPT 2000-Zoom in

Can I zoom in on a specific portion of a slide, perhaps one cell on an Excel
sheet screenshot? I downloaded the Zoom.exe and the Manager Add ins and still
cannot get it to work. Thank you

Are these addins from Chirag Dalal (officeone)? If you're having difficulty
getting the addins to install, set your macro security
(Tools|Macro|Security) to medium, then install.

Otherwise it's a bit tedious, but I can give you the steps if you can't get
the addins to work.

The zoom.exe was from someone on this newsgroup. My macro setting is low
already. I get the dialogue box that says Zoom, Normal, CLose, but when I
hit Ctrl, Alt and Z nothing happens in slide show view.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Hm. This sounds like something that will zoom in and out "on the fly."

The "manual" way would use animations, and so it requires you to anticipate
beforehand what you'll need to zoom in on so you can set it up. In a
nutshell, you can use a grow/shrink emphasis that occurs when you click the
object (use a trigger to set that up). Ooooh, wait. You said 2000. It
doesn't have either emphasis animations or triggers!

In that case, I'd probably set up a separate slide for the zoom. Copy the
original slide, paste it in the back of your presentation, and then with
that slide visible in Normal view, do a File|Save as and choose PNG from the
"save as type" dropdown. Save the slide as a PNG. Then insert that back into
the slide using Insert|Picture|From File and crop if necessary. Drag the
image from the corner to enlarge it. On the original slide, right-click the
object, choose Action Setting, and insert a hyperlink to that slide copy you
created. Be sure to put a button or something on the slide copy so you can
get back to the original.

This allows you to click the object on the slide and be taken to another
slide with the enlarged object.

If the image doesn't look good when you enlarge it, see
Improve PowerPoint's GIF, BMP, PNG, JPG export resolution
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00052.htm

....so you can have a higher res image to work with.

It's tedious in PPT 2000, I tell you! :)

Ah, hang on. It looks as if these are indeed Chirag Dalal's addins. I
thought they sounded familiar!

http://officeone.mvps.org/zoom/zoom.html The instructions say to make sure
the shortcut manager addin is loaded before loading the zoom addin. Did you
do that? If not, that's probably why zoom isn't recognizing the Ctrl+Alt+Z
shortcut combination.

Yes, I loaded the manager add in before the zoom executable. Sounds like a
lot of work is right. I want to zoom in on a couple of specific cells in an
excel print screen shot, so it sounds like it will just make the print screen
shot larger, not a specific cell. Is that correct. Thank you very much for
all your expertise. I will try the LONG way.

Yes, you're correct. But if you crop the image (well, a copy of the image)
down to just the couple of cells you want (View|Toolbars|Picture|crop
button), you can then drag the corner to enlarge just that portion.

Or you could contact Chirag and ask about the add-in. I'm sure his contact
info is on the officeone website.
