ppt lost after editing attachment

Hello,

I opened a ppt file attachement from yahoo webmail and edited it extensively.

I saved the file by clicking "save" and CTRL-S on several occasions. Now
that the file is closed, however, the new version is nowhere to be found.
Searching all drives (including system and hidden files) for the filename or
any ppt files only comes up with a hyperlink of 1kb to the correct file. In
yahoo mail itself only the old version is still available as an attachment.

Please help me find back this file. I have not closed yahoo mail or
powerpoint and will not do so until i can find the edited file back. Thanks
a lot in advance..

If you haven't closed PPT then simply use "Save As" and save it to a new
name.

The ppt is closed.

Also, none of the ppts i opened from attachments to webmails appear in the
recent document list of powerpoint.

When something like this happens with an attachment from outlook, there is
usually a temp file to recover it from, but i couldn't find anything (see my
first message). Yet, powerpoint asked me to save before closing the file and
i did. the computer aslo seemed to write it to disk or somewhere, because it
paused a little.

This isn't meant as an insult, but are you certain you searched the entire
machine and not just a particular drive or sub-folder?

First off, NEVER open a file directly from Outlook and click "Save". Always
click "File", "Save as" and change the folder location. Here is a link for

I know.. I just started working on a file that was already opened by someone
else and didn't check.

What makes things worse is that it was opened through webmail, so the only
reference in the internet temp-folder is a hyperlink, no file, not even with
a funny name...

Outlook doesn't really handle attachments well, i.e. they can be lost at
first sight, but at least they are recoverable if you don't close or restart.
With yahoo mail, this is not the case apparently.

Microsoft should seriously consider expanding the support/security for this
in office programs. Maybe an automated backup?
