PPT won't open file when clicked on, just a new slide, help?

For some reason whenever I browse to a ppt file and double click on it, ppt
opens but only gives me a new presentation and not the presentation I asked
it to open. Is there a config option somewhere that got mucked up????
help??? it's becoming extremely annoying

Do you have any add-ins installed? I had one recently that did something
kinda sorta similar.

You can close PPT and search for *.PPA files on your system. Rename them to
*.PPX Then try double-clicking a file and see if it opens. If so, you can
rename the PPX files back to PPA until you find the problem add-in.

In the steps you listed everything is the same up until "Scroll through the
Registered File Types list to Microsoft PowerPoint
Presentation and double-click it."

It doesn't do anything when I double click on it, I am operating on Windows
2000.
