PPT X: Text size changes by itself!

The following is my colleague's description of bizarre text
editing problems in Powerpoint X under OS X v10.2.8. I
looked over her shoulder and can verify this bizarre
behaviour that has her tearing her hair out!
-----
In slide sorter view I duplicated a slide that is similar
to the next one I want to make. Body text size reduced
itself from 30pt. to 26 pt. I have to manually change text
size back to 30pt.

Then I delete some of the body text, but when I hit delete,
text size automatically increases to 34 pt. and I have to
bump it back down to 30 pt.

When typing in the text change and the text bumps to the
next line, a white outline box appears after the cursor,
which I have to delete. Then I have to go in to adjust line
spacing which has mysteriously tightened. I increase the
line spacing and the spacing before a paragraph.

When I hit preview, the font decreases again to 26 pt. I
have to manually increase the font to 30 again but leading
is then automatically decreased to .8 instead of .9 which I
had just set it to. When I check the slide master, body
text is set at 30 pt. and line spacing at .9 with .2 after
paragraph, so the problem is not with the master settings.
-------

We have both been using Powerpoint since it's debut way
back when, and while we've seen some weird bugs, we've
never seen something quite this bizarre.

Any help?

This sounds like an "auto correct" option.

E.g. If powerpoint thinks your text is too small it makes it bigger

See Tools>AutoCorrect

Untick "autofit" options
