Prefixing text before an autonumber

S

Sallie

Is there a way to use autonumbering with the number not
being the first thing in the paragraph?

Example:

12A.1 ...
12A.2 ...
12A.3 ...
etc.

Clarification:

The fact that the prefix contains a number is irrelevant;
this was just my client's example. The prefix is any
string, such as:

Tag.1
Tag.2
Tag.3

Thanks.

Sallie,

Yes. While I don't use it myself, you can do this easily with
Format>Bullets and Numbering>Numbering. Pick a style and click customize and
then add Tag- or whatever prior to the number in the Number format field.

You could also use a SEQ field nested with a Quote field:

{ Quote Tag-{SEQ MySeq}} to create the sequence. AutoText the nested field
to quickly add to the sequence.

Found my own answer -- Format > Numbering > Outline
Numbered > Customize > Number format ... In this field,
prepend the desired invariant string.

That was exactly the solution suggested by Greg...

Seems you did not read it... I guess there are not much chances that you are
going to read this as well, but just in case:
Make sure to read Margaret's reply as well... It might be useful if you are
not familiar with styles, which are a must when dealing with numbered lists.

Greg,

Why do you recommend to embed the SEQ field in a QUOTE field?
