Preinstallation Disc: ?

What is the purpose of a Preinstallation Disc: I have a couple of new
computers with XP pre installed and I asked the dealer to send me Office
SB for each of them. I got every thing Ok but I don't understand the need
for pre-installation.....Need Help....Cant I just load each of them and then
activate them?
