Presentation from France finds correct English words misspelled

I work with a team in France who sent me a presentation with English text.
The problem is PPT calls out most English words as misspelled, even though
they are correctly spelled. I tried going to "Tools-Language" and selecting
"English" but it still shows a red wavy line under correctly spelled words,
even new words I add to existing foils.
How do I fix this so I can use the presentation, make changes and have PPT
identify only trully misspelled English words? Thanks,

In the Slides/Outline pane, opt to view the Outline, press Ctrl+A to select
the entire outline -- then choose Tools | Language, and English.

This will not work for any text boxes that are not witin PowerPoint
placeholders though.
