press spacebar multiple times to get to next slide

Sometimes to get to the next slide or element in a custom animation I must
press the page down or spacebar key multiple times before it finally clicks
to the next element. There is nothing in the animation menu to suggest extra
steps and this is not something that happens occasionally once it starts it
happens at the same spot in the presentation always.

Do you have a large image or video/sound in the subsequent slides?

Not in the next slide but elsewhere I do have some images. No video or
sounds, however.

What about the master slide? Many templates include animation on the
master.

Nothing in the master but title and text, as far as I can see.

Since it happens at the same spot every time, you might want to rebuild the
problem slide.

I could do that but this is a problem I often have. I'm surprised it isn't
well known since this issue has happened to me in many different
presentations.

Something has to be going on with your files or system, then. What you
describe is not normal behavior.

I'm wondering if the slides that are causing problems are imported from
other presentations and if they are coming with their slide masters and if
those slide masters have animations and when the original poster looks at
the master, it is the wrong master that has no animation. I doubt it, but
we are now grasping at straws.

I think that's as good a guess as any, David.

Oh, what about custom animation schemes? If one has been applied to that
particular master, maybe it's causing something like this? (Unlikely, but
possible, I suppose.)

Or maybe there's stuff (that has animations) on the pasteboard around the
edge of the problem slides. Or maybe on the slide master's pasteboard, so
it's happening on all slides with that master? Those might not show up
unless you shrunk the view to 25% or something.

Grasping at straws is good! :) I was using slides imported from other
presentations and when I copied the slides into a new presentation retaining
the new master the problem was fixed!

Any way to see when you have more than one master?

Thanks!

I'm pleased and amazed that my grasp at straws found the needle in the
haystack, or something like that.

If you go to the View menu and choose Master and Slide Master, you should
see all the masters on the left. If there is only one, you'll just see
one master.

To add to David's information about how to see the slide masters, before you
hit View|Master|Slide Master, make sure you use View|Normal [or possibly it
will show up as View|Normatl (Restore Panes) ] to restore the slide
thumbnail pane on the left. If you've closed that slide thumbnail pane and
don't do this, you won't see your list of slide masters on the left when you
go to slide master view, so your only hint would then be the vertical
scrollbar to the right of the slide, which would allow you to scroll through
the various masters.
