prevent custom views from copying to every mpp file

I have created some custom views and they are saved to global.mpt.
How can I stop MS project from copying my custom views to *.mpp files
when I try to use them?

Hello moley_cruz,

If you copy a custom view to global.mpt, it will be available in all
project files as all project files are based upon the global.mpt
template. If you want the custom view available in only select
projects, you either need to manually copy the view from project
file to project file, or consider creating a template and store the
views only in the template you created -- not global.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

HI,

When you use such a view in a project, it indeed is copied into the project
(if not it can't be used). Using Tools, Organizer, Vies, you can delete it
from the file after you've used it.

I want these views to be available to myself everytime I use MS
project, so i copied to global template.
But I do not want these views to be available to others when they open
my file.
no way to prevent this?

One idea I can think of is to have a macro to delete all custom views
from my mpp files.

Anyone can help on writing this?

Hi,
Just to complete Trevor's excellent advice: a clean new Global.mpt can be
created at any time when you rename or delete the globalM;pt file(s) in your
computer, then start Winproj.exe; it creates a default global.mpt

Lynn,

To answer directly your question -- if you send another user your
project file, they have full access to everything in the file --
views, custom fields, as well as all data. If you are assuming that
if you delete views no one else can see the data which made up the
views, that still won't work.

I hope this helps.
