Preventing a shape from overlapping connectors

Hi,

I have a generated diagram where I drop a whole lot of shapes onto a
page, connect them with dynamic glue, then execute a ActivePage.Layout
command to re-organise the shapes on the page.

Works brilliantly, except that some shapes are overlapping connectors
that are not connected specifically to them.

Any ideas how to prevent the connectors from being overlapped?

Thanks,
Tony

Play with the settings in File > Page Setup > Layout Tab until you are blue
in the face!

I still don't understand it all, but if I play around long enough, I am
usually able to improve the layout at least somewhat.

Sometimes, I have constructed my 2D shape with a hidden rectangle which is
larger than the visible part of the shape. And, ensuring that the Behaviour
is Lay out and Route Around, you can get dynamic connectors to keep further
away from your shapes.

Basically I'm using a Rectangle and a Dynamic Connector from Basic
Shapes.vss. Your message implies that these shapes may not be "lay out
and route around" by default. Is that correct?

The connectors for the other shapes are simply passing straight through
my shapes. Another issue I'm having that may be related is that I would
also like to prevent the connectors from overlapping.

I have tried to change the properties in both Page Setup > Layout and
Routing, and Shape > Layout Shapes but haven't been able to achieve the
result. Any ideas?

Oh, are the connectors passing through shapes that are not connected to
anything?

Go to Format > Behavior and check the Placement setting. See if the shapes
(not the connectors) are set to "Do not layout and route around". If this is
the case, then the connectors are ignoring the shapes on purpose.

Generally, shapes that you draw, that have never been connected will have
this behavior. The idea is that perhaps these shapes are logos or
background, since they're not connected to anything.

Flowchart shapes have the "layout and route around" setting pre-set, for
example.
