Preventing containers from moving

D

Dave

Hi,

I've been using One Note for a short while now and there is one query
I'd like some help with. I use ON with my study work. I've set the
study text I'm reading (a pdf printout) to the background to prevent
it moving. I then type notes etc down the side as I read the pdf. The
problem is that, sometimes, I need to add some text to a previous text
container, which automatically pushes the other containers down to
make space. This is a real problem, as the text relates to paragraphs
in the pdf and moving them down messes up my study. Is there a way to
turn off this feature? I don't mind a text holder overwriting as I add
text, as I can move it manually after adding to it.

Hope someone can help!

Best wishes,
Dave

No. Unfurtanetly there is no way to create a "fix position" for a
container. And there is no feature for binding objects together.

No way to get going things this way.

P.S. Pls also see my replies in the thread "Group items ..."

That's a shame. There are many things I like about ON, but this point,
for me, seems to be a big problem and an oversight. It seems that MS
has really just used very basic cut / paste features, with little
extra things that would make real note taking / research a pleasure,
and not a frustration / workaround. I expect they will address many
issues in the next version, so waiting with baited breath. Many thanks
for your reply Rainald and your other thread on group items was
interesting too.

Best wishes,
Dave

It might have been called "oversight" in ON2003.
But this essential had been discussed already prior to ON2007. Ad there
were many postings during the ON2007 Beta. And even more since that in
this NG and in Connect.
Obviously the users' cries just were not loud enough.

Come on, don't exaggerate!
There are really many really fine features for these tasks.
Still the very absence of any means for grouping and anchoring is a mist
serious issue

Unfortunately you can breathe just normal. :-( :-(
In the upcoming version 2010 there will be no changes as far as this
issue and grouping are concerned.
The head of the developers' team said "perhaps in a future version ... "
Nevertheless I will forward your comments to him.

The main points in the strategy for ON2010 as a part of Office 2010
(Office 14) have been teamwork and web orientation, "cloud computing" as
the guideline.
So many "ordinary" things (especially everything having to do with
"graphics") just fell under the table {siiigh}.
Many thanks
for your reply Rainald and your other thread on group items was
interesting too.

You're welcome

Regards
Rainald
