Turned on my computer this morning to find an automatically generated
Delivery Status Notification in my Junk e-mail box. Problem is that I never
sent an e-mail to the person in question. It appears that some third party
has access to sending e-mails through my system (Outlook 2003). This has
occurred despite the fact that I have McAfee, XoftSpy, and Windows Defender
all running on my system (XP).

Any thoughts on what to do to eliminate this?

someone is just using your address as the return address, it's easy for them
to do, they are not doing anything with your system and there's nothing you
can do about it.

You cannot prevent someone from using your e-mail *address* (not your
account but your *address*) anymore than you can prevent someone else
from using your name. Likewise, no one can prevent you from using
their email address. Your email address in your emails is whatever
you claim it is.
