Primitive Start Up Screen

After playing a faulty DVD, my computer hung and when rebooted, I found that
each time I started an Office application, it would appear in a primitive
screen rather than the usual start up screens. I have a screen shot of what I
mean, so if you think you have a solution for me, you may contact me at
(e-mail address removed) and I'll be able to send you the screenshot.

Do a "detect and repair" in the help menu, click "restore my shortcuts while
repairing." Might need your disk...

I tried that but couldn't because it said something about my computer
requiring network access where the disc is stored. I am currently overseas
for a number of months and will not get my network access for some time. So
what can I do now?
