Print problems!!

I have a friend that has a newer Dell PC (Pentium 4, 512MB
RAM, Windows XP). He also has Word 97 SR1 and an Epson
Stylus Color 777 printer. When he prints things portrait,
the document prints correctly and the correct number of
pages are produced. If he prints a document that is in
landscape mode, it prints the first inch or so of the
document, pauses, then spits the page out. It then loads
another page, prints some gibberish and continues this
until he powers the unit off, kills all processes, and
restarts the computer.

Would an upgrade of Word fix this? I've never seen
anything like this before, so I don't know what to tell
him. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Already did that, with no luck. Did the installation as
directed, restarted, and still the same results.

The printer worked fine on Windows98se... Then we got a
new machine with XP. It has worked fine for over two
months and is just now starting this mess. Any other
ideas? Thanx!
