Print thumbnails (small scale)

I have been asked to print a publication as Thumbnails (small scale) in a
City and guilds assessment.

Jenny,

The only way I can think to do this from Publisher is to print the
publication to a PDF printer or the "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer"
(if you have office 2003), and save (export) the file off as EPS or TIF
images (the choice of format would depend on how the final output would be
run) so you can place them as thumbnails in a new document. If you need me to
elaborate, please post a follow up, as instructions would be dependant on the
versions of software you have and how you will do final output (commercial
press, on line PDF, or just to an office laser printer).

I have experienced the same problem as JennyC.
I am studying City & Guilds IT Level 2 course and in the DTP Pre-assessment
examinations the student is required to print a multi-page colour brochure
"as thumbnails (small scale) in black and white".
This is not covered in the tutorials at either level 1 or 2 and none of the
college tutors have yet been able to offer a solution.
The college systems run Windows 2000 and MS Office 2000 Pro.
Anything Mike or others can suggest will be welcome.

Dave,

It sounds like you are studying Desk Top Publishing, if so you should have
access to Adobe Acrobat Professional, if you don’t it’s something you will
really want to add to your software collection.

1. Create a PDF file from your publication (I’ll assume that you know how to
do this).
2. Open the PDF and ‘Save As’ either TIF files or EPS files. (If you don’t
have Acrobat Publisher allows you to save the publication as TIF files
(however these will be RGB) If you are after something that is going to be
printed to an imagesetter EPS files give better results (and maintain any
CMYK and spot color information).
3. Open a new Publisher file and place the EPS or TIF images in the
publication sized and positioned as desired.

Hello JennyC

I now have a simple method which I beliece may satisfy the requirements of
the City & Guilds Asessment.

Open the multi-page publication.

On the FILE menu, click PRINT.

Click PROPERTIES.

Somewhere in Properties you should find a box called 'PAGES PER SHEET' which
allows you to select the number of pages that you want to print, all on one
sheet.

In the box, select a number equal to or greater than the total number of
sheets in your publication.

Click PRINT and all the pages will print in a scaled down size on one sheet
of paper.

Hope this helps

Dave
