Printer Settings not being retained

We are having a problem where our printer settings are not being saved. We
have setup the printers in the control panel to default to portrait printing
but when we go into like Word, Excel, Outlook or IE and go to print it is
printing in landscape. If you go to the print options from the applications
you can set it to print portrait for that document but when you exit and come
back in it is back to landscape even though the default printer setting from
the control panel are reflecting portrait. Is there some other place that
this needs to be setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Windows XP,
Office 2003)

Finally found how to solve my own issue.

Remove Outlook from using word to edit email messages.

Outlook > Tools > Mail Format tab > Uncheck top check box
