printing 2 pages on 11x17

Assuming Word 2000 or later: Set the page layout to 11x17 and do all your
formatting on that basis. In the lower right corner of the Print dialog, set
"2 pages per sheet". Word will shrink everything proportionally.

I think this would be problematic; you'd have to use 11x17 portrait, and,
unlike metric sizes, US sizes are not proportional when rotated. A better
approach would be to use "2 pages per sheet" in the Page Setup dialog
(Margins tab: Multiple pages), which gives you two 8.5x11 pages side by
side. You create the pages just as you would individual Letter-sized pages,
with page numbers, running heads, etc., but Word will print two on a sheet.

Yes, you're probably right about that. With my suggestion, the proportions
would give you the equivalent of about 7.1 x 11 for each half-sheet, with
wider side margins than you'd want.

Besides setting "2 pages per sheet" on the Margins tab, you need to set the
paper size to 11x17 landscape to get the proper layout.
