Printing 2000 files on a different pc

I sent a Word 2000 file to a friend. She can open it ok on screen but
whenever she tries to print it (on 2 different computers), all she gets is,
in her words "a load of symbols" on the page. What can she do to print
please?.

When she opens it, what application is she using? Word? WordPad?

If Word, make sure that she has Word open. Then she should use File => Open
and make sure that the file type is "Word document (.doc)."
