Printing email attachments

I am a new user to Windows Vista and I have the Business version. I'm having
trouble with printing email attachments. My attachments are almost always
letters and documents - I never (or hardly ever) receive photos. The
attachments are opened in Windows Photo Gallery and sometimes (not always)
when I try to print the attachments they come out lengthways on the paper and
are stretched out like elastic to fill the page. I can barely read them and I
certainly couldn't use them or forward them to someone else. I tried opening
the attachments in other programs without any success. When I tried to open
them in Word they come out as a jumble of alpha/numeric characters which mean
nothing. I'm also having trouble with attachments that I have scanned and
sent out in emails. Several clients tell me they can't open them or they can
only get the first page or they just won't open. The outgoing attachments are
also sent in Windows Photo Gallery format. How can I fix this? Why can't the
attachments be received and sent in Word?

You care not receiving actual documents but an image of the document; they
probably scanned them. They are not in a "Windows Photo Gallery format" but
in a picture format such a jpg, png or tif. Your default in Windows is set
to open these type of files with Windows Photo Gallery.
They cannot be opened in Word as they are not in a document format but in a
picture format.

When going for the print button in Windows Photo Gallery, you can set your
print options of how this picture should be printed. You probably have it
set to fill the entire page. You can read more about which printing options
are available to you in the Help section of Windows Photo Gallery.

Note that this isn't an Outlook issue. If you feel that Windows Photo
Gallery doesn't suite your needs, you can install a different photo
editor/viewer and set it as your default in Windows. As Outlook will follow
the defaults set in Windows, your image attachments will then be opened with
that application.

Can you provide me with some examples of different photo editors/viewers that
I might try and where I might find them.
