Printing from Project 2003 Fit to 1 page by 1 page prints 2 pages

When I print certain of my GANTT charts I am trying to fit it all to one
page, so I change the print setting to fit to 1 page by 1 page. What happens
is that all but one task fit on page 1, but the final task stubbornly remains
on a second page. I have tried hiding the subtasks of the final summary
task, but even then, that summary task appears on page 2. Printer is HP
Business InkJet 2800 and it makes no difference if I choose to print on A3 or
A4. Project is version 2003 SP2.

Paul,
Check to see if there is a manual page break on that last task. If you
are using a legend or footer, you might want to make sure the margins
are set to accommodate that added information, or remove the legend and
footer to see if it makes a difference.

John,

I have checked that there were no manual page breaks, I even created one and
then removed it, just in case. I have then removed the legend, removed the
header, removed the footer, set the margins to smaller and larger values,
even zero, but it still prints on two pages, with just the final task on page
2. Even if I add a dummy task, then it is this dummy task that prints on
page 2.

Paul,
OK, now that you've eliminated several potential items, let's try a few
more things. Does the second page show in Print Preview or only when you
actually print? Try using a different printer if one is available. Does
the file display the same print behavior if that file is opened on
another PC? Did you check that the print driver for the printer you are
using has all the latest updates? Does this occur only with this one
file or with any file you try to print?

Go to File/Page Setup/View tab. Try various options and see if selecting
or removing any one of them makes a difference. Also go to File/Page
Setup/Page tab and try using the "adjust to" scaling instead of "fit
pages wide by pages tall". When you do have scaling set for page
fitting, what is the percent reduction shown? Try using an adjust to
value that is much less (don't worry if the result is not readable, we
are just trying to find some answers).

John,

Another printer (HP LaserJet 1320n) has the same behaviour. Another PC has
the same behaviour. If I change the settings to select print ALL sheet
columns, or print first n columns on all pages, the shape of what is printed
changes. Instead of the whole page being filled, the gantt chart occupies
only the top part of the sheet, with the legend at the bottom of the page and
a large white space in between.

The drivers are the most up to date on both printers. HP LaserJet 1320n PCL
6 - 60.41.41.0, HP Business InkJet 2800 PCL 6 - 60.43.41.0.

I set up a dummy project and added a one day task repeatedly, testing the
print preview on A4 paper every time. With tasks 1-13 it printed on 1 page,
tasks 14-62 on 2 pages, 63-71 on 1 page, 72-78 on 2 pages, 79-80 on 1 page,
81-91 on 2 pages,92-99 on 1 page, 100-104 on 2 pages, 105-110 on 1 page,
111-118 on 2 pages and 119-125 (when I got fed up) on 1 page.

With the dummy project having 100 tasks and printing on A4, if I ask for 1
page by 1 page, then it prints on 2 pages, but if I ask for 35%, then it will
print on 1 page.

Regards,

Paul.
